I recently picked up my Charmonix/Beck from Kevin and Carey at Special Edition. My SN# is 1146. So I would think that means there are a little less than 1200 Charmonix/Beck 550 spyders out there since Chuck and Kevin started doing things together back in 1982(?).
Does anyone have a guess as to how many Vintage and ThunderRanch 550 spyders might be out there. Those seem to be the Big Three as far as 550 spyders go. (I am not counting Perry at this time. Sorry) I also know there are smaller manufacturers that might have 10 or 20 cars out there but I was just trying to figure out how rare/unusual our spyders actually are, world-wide.
Just one of those things that crossed my mind sitting here at work waiting for the day to end.

My Vintage chassis # is 344, back in 2002. Don't know where he is today, or if really good records were kept. Beck made a bunch of cars before they went to South America. I would figure less than 2000 total is a safe bet for all brands together. _________________ 2002 Vintage |

My Vintage is numbered 412 from 2004. Not sure if there are accurate records of Vintage production, but Greg told me at the time that he produces somewhere around 40 a year. I'm sure Greg could follow up. Let's put it this way, there are a lot LESS Spyders on the road than Cobras and a LOT more replicas than originals... _________________ Matthew Gardiner

Kevin said they do sell about 10 cars a month, but that is both spyders and speedsters. I ordered mine in Sept 09 and picked up in Nov 09.
Also, SN might not always be sequential with dates as my color was not in stock in Indiana, but was going to be on the next shipment from Brazil. But if you wanted a color that was a slow seller, they might have one in their warehouse from this summer that might have a lower SN even though the sales date was later.

Like Charlie said, once they hit the warehouse they can get built out of order. We are mostly working on 1150 and 1160 series cars now, but I still have one 1080s and one 1090s car in the warehouse. RHD red anyone?
Also, only cars that come to the US get the 9 digit chassis number. Cars most other places in the world get a 17 digit VIN number. I will have to do some digging to get a "real" number of Beck spyders produced but from memory it is a bit over 2000.
Speedsters we are just breaking 400. _________________ Carey Hines
