|
|
A reader of my vintage racing blog recently sent me a DVD of their 1950s racing films. The first race of these was the September 1957 race at Riverside Motor Raceway. Six Spyders were entered in the races (although I only count 5 in the film).
Does anyone have any information about these particular cars / drivers?
Check it out on The Chicane. _________________ |

NICE! If that film had any more hair it would be bigfoot. Looks like those Vettes seemed to get frequent tail spin around the corners.
Man, those cars were drifting before drifting was cool... _________________ Matthew Gardiner

Porsches with 8, 88 and 188 are usually Vasek Polak cars. _________________ |

Then there's the 8-Ball '66 Corvette that did quite well with Bob Johnson at the helm. One of my favs and I happen to building a 1/8th version - just for a change!
Converted the hood to Big Block specs!

I've added the 1956 Paramount Ranch race. This one features Richie Ginther's decisive win in the under 1500cc race in a 550.
There's also some interesting shots of a front-engined Porsche 4-cam powered car that looks to me like a Lotus 11..
I've searched for the chassis number of Ginther's entry without luck.. Anyone know anything more about this particular car - I'd love to do a follow-up post on the blog with the current status of the car / recent photos. _________________ |

I love it. This is exactly what makes vintage racing so cool. Fairly large speed differentials between the cars, primitive race tracks, limited safety considerations, it's all there.
