I have bought a fair amount of parts from Greg, all were great quality at a fair price, and yes all were delivered late. In my humble opinion all of us lack certain skill sets in certain areas. Greg is great to deal with, very knowledgeable and helpful. He is also very quality oriented, something the industry needs.
His ability to manage contracts, meet commitments and communicate with customers needs work. Greg's business would greatly benifit from someone who would answer the phone and give customers an answer on their orders. Additionally, when someone orders give a delivery date, if its 1 year so be it, but meet the date!
Greg needs a customer manager who will keep track of all in house orders, scheduled delivery dates and be pro active by contacting a customer in advance if there is a delay. I think some very simple changes like this would yeild great returns for Greg's investment.
Think of now many people out there order from other suppliers because of the delivery problems they read about here on the forums. Personally I like Greg and have had a good experience dealing with him, I understand others have not been as fortunate. I'm not sure if Greg realizes how great a business he could actually have! _________________ |

I agree. I got my chassis relatively quick because I bought one that he already had in stock. I just had him paint it, and make it a roller so that I could move it around my garage. Heck, the transmission (that I supplied) was bolted in with 2X4s (my suggestion)!!!
If I may, I would like to make three suggestions to those waiting or going to order:
1. Know what you want and don't make changes part way through.
2. Keep it simple. If you want something totally custom it's going to take time.
3. An airplane ticket is very cheap compared to a 30K+ investment.
If you're worried, give Greg a few days notice and fly out there and take a look for yourself. I did that about midway through my build, and I think it keeps things on track.

I have never heard of anyone not getting their stuff.
I have heard and experienced significantly longer wait times than expected as above.
For individual parts, ordered one at a time, delivery seems to be pretty quick. Grouping easy to supply parts in the same order as hard to supply parts seems to delay the entire shipment.
Asking for special modifications throws a wrench into the entire schedule, but Greg has honored those requests in the past. I'm not sure how keen he is to continue doing those.
Maybe Greg can give us some advice on how to make the transaction as simple as possible? |
All I that I am asking for are "off the shelf" parts, I gave up on the others.
I think 4 years feels like forever _________________ you don't know what you don't know..... |

Sorry to hear about you half finished Vintage Spyder, I do not know your story but I believe you are due what you are owed by Greg Leach. In light of the fact that you must have a body and chassis, what parts do you require that cannot be obtained from other sources? These car's are just not that complicated. Most of the suspension is VW off the shelf other than his swing arms. But GL still need to do the right thing by you, that's just proper for anyone that call's himself a businessman and is conducting business. The fact that he has a small staff , does most of the work himself, is his problem. He should do something about that. In the real world where I come from in business your are penalized with fines and with holdings when you do not meet the terms of the contact or agreements.
Good luck on those parts I wouldn't let Greg Leach slow me down, I would find someone else to get them from and get your car going.

I was hesitant ordering from Vintage but Greg had the best pricing so I ordered a gray carpet set three weeks ago.....it arrived on time and as promised. I asked for an extra yard and a half of carpet and it was also thrown in at, N/C to me.

Dont get me wrong, I like Greg, I'm just impatient to get the Spyder. I know Greg will come through for me. He just has lots of irons in the fire so to speak.

See, these are the kind of story we enjoy hearing.
Thats great!
Enough of these stories and any past bad news will be a distant memory.
I look forward to seeing the board peppered with more of these good news stories regularly. _________________ |

I asked Greg about park brake cables for my car and he promtly returned my call and answered all of my questions even though he was not going to make a sale from me. He gave me the run down of how they install their park brake cables and offered to email me pictures of their set up.
I too have heard of the problems of people waiting forever for their cars/parts but I have always had good service from him. _________________ |

As I understand it Greg hired a "office manager" to manage customer relations, orders and track delivery times! I refered a buyer to Greg last October, he bought the car, and it is now a few weeks overdue. From day 1, I told him it is the best car (in my opinion) and it likely will be delivered late so expect that.
His car was to ship in February but didn't, and initially he couldn't get any answers. He called last Friday and spoke to the new "office manager" and told me she was extremly helpfull and he was very happy to speak with her and get the news on his car.
I think it is just what is needed. Good for Greg, I wish him continued success. _________________ |
