I am finishing building my Charmonix/Beck 550 spyder and it came with the standard VW pedal cluster. I ordered some alloy pedal covers from Russ at FiberSteel. I was under the dash looking around and the install on the brake and clutch are pretty straightforward because those pedals are metal. However, the accelerator pedal is plastic and it has some weird deep reinforcements molded into the back which will make it more difficult to attach the alloy cover.
How have people attached the alloy covers to the plastic accelerator pedals or is there a different metal VW pedal that can EASILY be swapped out for this?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Charlie

Double sided tape. Buy from Home Depot. THe tape is grey, comes on a roll and has a red protective covering you remove to reveal the sticky tape.

It's "INDUSTRIAL" strength and will work for this application provided you clean the existing pedal with alcohol.

OK. Talk about service with a smile.
Alex with FiberSteel saw my posting and called my office to let me know what to do.

He says that the plastic pedal is removable with a sliding pin at the base. They mark the location of the alloy cover while still in the car, then remove and drill the holes. Where ever a hole hits the plastic honeycomb reinforcing on the back, take a dremel or similar tool and cut away the reinforcing. At that point you should be able to get the nut on the back and attach the alloy pedal cover. Then reinstall the whole thing back in the car.

I will try this some evening and let everyone know how it worked. If I remember I will shoot some pics too.

Alex, Thanks for taking the initiative to contact me with a solution.

Charlie

I just did my install this weekend.
Alex was correct in that there is a pin that secures the plastic pedal at the base.
Disconnect the spring (little flimsy thing) and I slid the pin out toward the clutch pedal.
Then I was able to put pedal on my bench and lay the alloy one over. Once I did it was easy to see where to drill the holes. I put one in the top left and one in the lower center. I will try to get a pic to show. I did go have to go the the hardware store and get longer bolts by 1/4" and some washers but with the longer bolts I did not need to dremel any additional plastic away. The washers let the nut sit on top of the reinforcement with only the drilled hole needed.

The brake and clutch were easy and used the stock bolts. I did put the rubber spacer that Russ supplies underneath the Brake and Clutch.
