I thought I would get off my other topic for awhile, and show everyone my engine that I will be installing in my Vintage.

The engine is 2276cc with about 7000 miles on it. It came out of another club members car that was upgrading to Subaru. I got it for a song and feel like it will provide me with years of good service.

The engine was built by GEM VW and I have talked to the builder, it what is called a stroker motor.

Im in the process of cleaning it up a bit, and building up a ECU harness for a Micro-squirt ECU and relay board, this will give me control over the injector fuel maps and other tuning parameters. I'll be going with EDIS ignition and no distributor...

Here is a picture of the engine.

I like Air-cooled engines, what do you think?

Looks good. You may want to change the line on the right side of the oil filter so the 2 bends are not so extreme. Another thing you can do is to see if anyone has the Porsche valve covers for sale and switch them over before the motor goes in the car. You should have lots of fun with that. Thats the same motor I was looking at before deciding to go with a subie.

I am switching to a Type IV and have the Type I Porsche valve covers, never used. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks

Actually I already have a set of those Porsche one's, The reason they are not installed is there is CHT sensor installed through the currently installed left valve cover. I did'nt what to drill extra holes in them. See the little white pigtail is the one I'm referring to.

Here is picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Not sure what's going on with the other plugged hole in the head flange looks like it was set up for another size sensor.

Dennis,
That sensor is unnecessary with the megasquirt. The other GM type air temp sensor mounted just near that one is the one you want to use. You can change the valve covers. This reminds me that I need to send you the EDIS module. Sorry for the delay.
Paul

RE the oil lines: I am sure that the oil filter is not getting mounted there in a Spyder. The firewall behind the passenger seat is a great place for it. I used 45 degree AN-8 fittings on both the in and out engine fittings. This kept the lines away from both the pulley and the exhaust header.

I'm curious on the GEM engine, I read good things on thesamba about them. What did your friend think about the engine and its performance? I've got a GEM 2276 that will eventually go into my spyder.
