Not my car of course, but I figured some of you may be interested in what the real deal will sell for. The last one that sold (last year I believe) sold for $3.65m. Wonder what this guy will go for! :)

Wow. I'm surprised they are selling. Perhaps the $3.65M recent sale has something to do with their decision. It's a very clean Spyder. A bunch of us had a chance to see it in person at the Quail and meet Peter and Cheryl Dunkel. Joe Ruiz who built my 519 gearbox also built an additional 519 for 0077 with street-able gear ratios so that Cheryl could drive it more easily. She was really cool and you could definitely see her enjoyment in the car every time she blipped the throttle and revved that 4 cam.

I wish I had the cash... :( :( :(

Based on private sales that are going on, you watch - there won't be much change from $4.5M [-X

I plan to be at the auction, but will keep my hands firmly in my pockets and my head motionless. :-#

Will do Andrew.
I'm guessing that the 550 will be cordoned off pretty well with very limited access. Hopefully that's incorrect, but access as good as the event at the Quail is doubtful. Leaving checkbook home, as I hate when the police come to arrest me for passing bad checks. ;)

Not really my style, but I could be an 0077 owner while going through a divorce, #-o

Well Dan?

Was that you that forked over the $3.75M? I had a feeling it was going to come in close to $3.5. It would be interesting to know what Peter and Cheryl acquired the car for 25 years ago. Well you know it was a good ROI given that the market values have tripled just in the past few years. My guess is that the market is leveling and they decided that now is probably a good time to let it go. However, the Mecum/Velocity announcer was getting on my nerves babbling about the chassis construction. He was completely wrong in discussing the axel location and removable crossmember. What the hell was that all about? The axle location is under the frame not over and the only thing that changed after 550-003 was the switch from a leading arm to a trailing arm. Oh well. Another sad day of envy.

I still wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in Dan's garage - he is looking for a new daily driver... :D

Ballpark ROI: in 1990 after I had purchased but not yet picked up my Beck body on frame, I went to Fantasy Junction, Bruce Trenery's consignment shop in Emeryville in the East Bay near Oakland (they later built the Pixar campus across the street). At that time in his store there were perfectly restored 550 and RSK for sale- $450,000 and $650,000 respectively. I took pictures of the 550 to help my build. I suppose I should have sold everything I had and bought the car instead.

Not me. I'm off to Pebble this morning and then overnight in Big Sur.
Fantastic and exhausting week.
At just over $4M (with bidder's premium) I think it was a good but not exceptional price.
A 750 Monza didn't meet reserve. Actually thought the bidding at the upper end was slow.
Perhaps seller expectations were too high ??
